This is not a streetlight....BUT....
This is actually a type of traffic light sensor that uses sonic waves to detect cars. It works same way like bats sends a sound & it bounces on surface back to the bat.

You see them around Baltimore City, and the ones still standing, not all of them but some are still in service, almost all of them that still is standing from what I was told. I believe those are General Electric since the slipfitter on the "drum" is EXACTLY the same as my GE Form 175 Remote & my old General Electric NEMA slipfitter!!

Actually it is the same size...I have seen it...and we have a setup similar to Shannon's picture in one of the intersections in Northern part of Baltimore..... in an angle..

YOU ARE THE BEST JOE!!!!!!! Can you find another older types detectors for same purpose as above? I saw other types in the city that had something like 2 holes or glasses....which obviously could be some kind of radar type detectors?

No problem Jace, there's some pictures of some interesting old style signals here on Willis's site and here too.

There's a pic of a early sensor on the second link that was activated by using the horn. Shocked

Not sure on the other detector that you described though.

So it is an actual old traffic detector. The company in the ad is Laboratory for Electronics...their Automatic signal division. LFE/Automatic merged with Eagle Signal in 1993.

Well actually, I found the above ad linked from the same traffic light group that Nick is part of. I just happened to come across it when I was looking for something else. Wink Razz

Then I wonder why Nick never regonized it! Well I may join that page.....I've kinda had a thing about traffic lights....really I'm more of a "Utility and Electrics" dude....I even own a parking meter dating back to 1958
