4-Pack of Vintage GE Inside-Frost 100W Incandescents
Grabbed these off the shelf at my grandma's house while cleaning the shelf. My grandpa passed away in April 2014 so I've been organizing the 6-shelf storage rack in the basement. These look pretty old (1970s?) so I grabbed them along with all the electrical-related stuff he had. I cleared everything with my grandma. She said I can have anything I find down there as long as they "don't need it".

Yeah probably 70s era for these. Classic! I know a house with some of these.

Yeah these are awesome!

Good to see you're still stockpiling 100w bulbs...if necessary these CAN be used if you get desperate! Laughing
streetlight98   [Jan 25, 2015 at 08:03 PM]
LOL not really stockpiling. These aren't part of the stockpile, I have these as part of the collection since they're vintage. I will never use these hopefully. I plan to have some display cases where I can display some vintage lamps and other smaller vintage lighting stuff like insulators and photocells.

Lit with vintage preheat fluorescents I'm gonna guess? (Well modern lamps and starters in them)
streetlight98   [Jan 25, 2015 at 08:23 PM]
Maybe. My grandpa (one with the shop and troffers in the basement) has a bunch of display cases with matchbox cars in them. He said I can have the cases "when he's gone" if I can get them out of the basement lol. The cases are pretty ancient. A few have two F20T12s mounted end-to-end (preheat) and others have oddball Philips Econ-o-watt T8 blackenders. Something like F64T8 or something like that? Real oddball appliance lamps I guess. I've hooked up the F20T12s before but never found a cord for the T8-lit ones. The lamps must be 5 or 6ft long. They're blackenders and Philips Econ-o-watts, so that's interesting. I think he's got like 4 or 5 F20T12 display cases and three of the oddball T8 ones and then there's a cool case shaped like a school crossing sign (the yellow house-shaped signs with people holding purses lol) and that also has a blackender T8, either 3 or 4ft long.

Yeah I remember you relating a story of plugging them in for the first time in decades most likely. Those Philips sound interesting...are they slimline ones I wonder? If you can get them plugged in the startup will help tell you.
streetlight98   [Jan 25, 2015 at 11:36 PM]
I think they might be slimline. Not preheat, since there are no starters. The "corner" display with the T8 is preheat though IIRC. There's a starter behind one of the lamp ends. As for the F20T12 preheaters, the starters are actually next to the lamp in the middle of the display. So there's a lamp, starter, starter, lamp when looking at the front of the display. The lamps themselves are hidden from view unless you get on your knees and look up into the display. A couple of the lamps are Altos but some are GE and some are non-Alto Philips with the early-90s "fancy" endcaps. He's probably has the displays 15-20 years now. I can't explain the Altos. He's never touched the lamps as far as I know, so maybe some of the displays he's only had 10-12 years.

Altos came out in '95 or '97 depending who you ask, and in only F34T12 at first. But 15 years ago was 2000, when I think they were already pretty prolific. (Wow, Altos have been around 20 years, time sure does fly doesn't it).
streetlight98   [Jan 26, 2015 at 12:28 AM]
Hmm, well the F34T12 Altos must have been made as well as full-mercury ones because my Philips F34T12s are from 1997 and are full-mercury (or at least labeled as such). When did the F20T12 altos come out?
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jan 26, 2015 at 12:31 AM]
Not sure about the F20s but I have a Philips F20T12/WW from August 1997 thats still full mercury.
streetlight98   [Jan 26, 2015 at 12:55 AM]
I have one from either 2001 or 2003 that an Alto (two actually, they're NOS F20T12/K&B lamps)
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jan 26, 2015 at 02:12 AM]
And the 40w 4' ones were Alto by 2004 for sure.
streetlight98   [Jan 26, 2015 at 11:07 AM]
Yeah. The T8s were too.
