My new OVX
So here it finally is, My new OVX. Got this fixture in a trade with Mike. Met up with him yesterday and traded one of my unistyles for this. The fixture has some paint chipping from long storage but Mike did a great job cleaning out the fixture! I wanted to fire it up yesterday but realized I didn't have a 400 watt lamp. I was happening to be cleaning this morning and came across a box of lamps I totally didn't remember having, and it ended up having a 400 watt lamp in it! Fired it up and everything works great. I do plan on installing a PE receptacle in it and will update the photo when this happens.

Sweet! Yeah the caked on mold and rot did a number on the door's paint. Notice how they lined the NEMA tag up with the drip hole, which is not centered on the door. Mine is the exact same way. Yeah I installed a PC receptacle on mine too. It's just not the same without it!

Nice, never seen a gold tagged OVX in the wild, almost thought it was a Mike repo knowing how skilled he's getting with those!
I never realized cobras had drip holes! I guess the OVX is the best design for channelling water out with that dip in the housing Razz

All HPS Coopers had gold tags until 2001. Yep most cobraheads have drip holes, but not all! It's a good idea to allow water out in the event it gets in rather than let it fill up in the refractor lol. Often times the Thomas & Betts 113s from the early-mid 90s and M-250R2s from around the same era collect water here. Happens more when the arm is tilted down, so the water runs right into the fixture.

The Crouse Hinds OVMs were also notorious for water buildup in the refractor.

Interesting. All the (few) OVMs used here were on 2" arms (aluminum davit poles on the freeway) so no water in those. Seems like water intrusion really becomes an issue with the 1-1/4" arms.

Nice! I wish I lived on that side of the country to meet you guys, but I am down here. Nice OVX though! I prefer the OVX as full cutoff, but yeah. Looks kinda like my new one, but older of course. Do you know the date?

This was made January 1995 just like mine. They're identical twins from the same factory batch. Very Happy They really haven't changed any over the years except for the hinge redesign in 2004, as these hinged apparently like to snap off. They seem better than the tiny undersized M-250R1 hinge pins though. I get knots in my stomach every time I open my M-2501 since I'm afraid I'm gonna snap the hinge off lol.

I ordered a receptacle for this but it's not a cooper style one but an intermatic one. It's the same depth but I won't have a way to change the orientation of the control but it works for the time being.

Yeah I'm sure you'll find one off a removed Cooper or Westy. I found my PC socket on eBay.
