I have a big emergency light like this! Mine's a Lumacell from the 80s. It had a massive 32 Ah battery that was shot, though it didn't vent.

Did you keep the old fixture? With some luck you can find a replacement battery for a decent price. With no external lights these last a LONG time!

Its almost as heavy as a car battery, and unfortunately I discarded both fixtures
