Cooper OVC Mounted Outside
Here's the new watch dog. 50W HPS. I'm not sure how the lovely orange light will make the yard look but I wanted to bring the M-250A indoors... I also changed the photocell. The M-250A had a 2006 black DTL and this has a blue multivolt Touch-And-Glow photocell from Lowe's. I love the color of these photocells.

well, the 50W HPS is dimmer and it lights a narrower longer strip. this photocell is more sensitive than i thought too. It's about as sensitive as the black DTL i guess... I have the PC oriented the same way it was in the M-250A too. i noticed this looks like it's aiming down slightly. I'll have to fix that sometime... Yes it bugs me when the lights droop down lol.

Do you like it better though? Is 50w HPS generally an OK replacement for the 100w MV this replaced?
streetlight98   [Dec 28, 2013 at 02:53 AM]
Eh i think the 100W MV was a lot brighter and i had a used lamp in it too (so it was dimmed out too albeit slightly) The HPS has a more controlled beam. it's long and narrow whereas the coated MV was more of a blob of light. I think the 100W MV lit the yard better. Since we don't really use the light though I'll keep it up for now. Possibly the RMA is the next candidate. I'll just have to make room in my closet for the OVC...

What if you put a yardblaster arm in your closet and mounted a light on that? Laughing

Are you ASKING my parents to kill me or what? Razz Laughing Geeze i forgot how heavy the M-250A is lol. It's got a thicker cast housing since it's from the 60s. The OVC probably weighs about half as much as the M-250A lol.

I have a spare 175W MV 120/240V GE ballast without the brackets so if I can get a 1960s GE M-250R with a bad ballast or a ballast that I can't use (208V, 240V, 277V, 480V) then I can install the 175W ballast in it and use it in the backyard.

i can't install any other ballast in the fixture though since the ballast bracket for this fixture is welded to the ballast so I can take out the ballast in there but I can't install another one unless I make custom brackets for it.

Okay I see...175w would be perfect for your yard although 100w is enough.
streetlight98   [Dec 28, 2013 at 10:49 PM]
yeah 100W lights the yard fine but 175W would light the yard well IMO. and if it's too bright i can install the yellowed plastic lens.

And/or a nice dimmed-out Westy Lifeguard if you find one...isn't your 175w one nearly NOS?
streetlight98   [Dec 28, 2013 at 11:23 PM]
all of my 175W MV lamps are as bright as new. my lifeguard 175W lamp is NOS, yep.

Nice! I might have to go down to CA soon so I'll have to fire up that Regent yardlight with the Westy lamp! Or better yet, try to get it! Very Happy

will you see your relative with the M-400A? If so grab pics! Very Happy

That's whose house it's at...not sure if I'll have to go down there but I might. I'll probably be staying at their house, so I'll get pics of that M-400A

Nice! but I want the lens!for mine Razz Crying or Very sad
streetlight98   [Feb 05, 2014 at 10:19 PM]
Thanks! LOL well aren't you getting one from NiMo? Razz I've noticed at some point Cooper used a slightly boxier lens for the OVZ. the bottom wasn't quite as round as this type. It was sometime during the OVZ reign but i think they use the round ones like this now.
Mercuryvapor123   [Feb 05, 2014 at 11:43 PM]
Yea I'm supposed to get one from NiMo when ever he gets back to me with shipping. I though that the OVZ always had a lens like this.
streetlight98   [Feb 05, 2014 at 11:58 PM]
They look the same and might be the same but i swear some of the OVZs i've seen have lenses that have slightly flatter bottoms. It could be the angle I saw them at though.
