Aw man those are F90T17s!!! Very Happy Until I read the title I was getting ready to gather up my electrical tools and ask you where you saw this and grab a truck and start grabbing these puppies. Smile

I see T17s all the time, my friends take photos in old hospitals
streetlight98   [Jul 27, 2016 at 02:45 AM]
I want to get some lamps for my fixtures. I can't find them anywhere! At least not at a less than asinine price. the few left out there go for like $100 a lamp. Rolling Eyes

I will ask around but don't get your hopes up, Most T17s are in abandon psycho wards and people will go in to take photos but will not take things out

This building has over 400
streetlight98   [Jul 28, 2016 at 03:18 PM]
Wow where is this place? Do any buildings in RI have T17s that you know of?
traffic light1   [Jul 28, 2016 at 05:30 PM]
Closest T17s to us that I know of is a abandon hospital in PA

Oh wow that's a bit of a hike lol. Laughing There was quite a few abandoned mill buildings along the route 6/10 connector but most have either burned down or were torn down. Sad

Hospital code back in the day (1920 ?) made them put T17s, they give very nice and even light I was told
streetlight98   [Jul 29, 2016 at 12:59 AM]
Yeah the light from them is very diffused and low glare. The large diameter tube gives them a low surface brightness. they don't last long though. Like 3000 hours I think. Modern T8s last 24000 hours. Shocked T17s did not exist in the 20s. They came about around 1940 and the fixtures were discontinued by the end of the 40s once slimline T12s came around.

Ok, it throws me for a loop, most building that I see have them are 1920s but hospital code must of made them go back and put them in, for that short of a time, lots of hospitals put them in.

T17s are rated to last 9000 hours but many don't make it that far due to vacuum loss and other quality control issues.
streetlight98   [Aug 04, 2016 at 01:09 PM]
Ah so they're rated to last the same length as the preheat T12s then. Most that I've seen are rated at 9000 hours. Yeah it's too bad no one ever invested in T17s. An F100T17 with a triphosphor coating would probably be VERY bright and with beefier electrodes, they could make one to last longer than T8s! They could have also come out with a special rapid start ballast for them. But the lamps use more materials so they're more expensive to make so they wanted to keep them as cheap as possible. Neutral

I dislike T5 the most, I would not allow them in the in the building and used T12HO
streetlight98   [Aug 05, 2016 at 02:52 AM]
I don't mind them if diffusers are used but I dislike T5HO since they dim badly. The bare tubes are a bit harsh to look at though.
traffic light1   [Aug 05, 2016 at 11:08 PM]
From my perspective, we have 490 light fixtures, T5 would be the worst because they have such a short life
traffic light1   [Aug 13, 2016 at 11:55 PM]
Most of them work I was told Laughing
streetlight98   [Aug 14, 2016 at 02:09 PM]
Yeah these tanks rarely ever die. Stuck starters usually are what kills older preheat ballasts (since it short circuits the electrodes of the lamp rather than the current actually flowing through the tube between the electrodes) but these big T17s rarely seem to get hurt by stuck starters. Other collectors have said they've got T17s that had stuck starters for YEARs and with new lamps and starters, the fixtures fired right up!

Nice ! I see so many T17s. ? Austin said some other fixtures are 10ft is that true?
