and i always thought the lights were installed after the pole was installed. I mean, what if the pole gets knocked around a little while it's being installed? then the light may get damaged.
nope, definetly not a crimefighter. Those things are glare bombs and probably blinded drivers more than anythings, but they were unique lights nontheless...
In answer to your ?'s: Yes, FGS-that is a number 14 tag-the Crimefighters are on the way out. That particular block had several lightpoles unattended, I just happened to drive down that block and had my camera with me. (Don't know the wattage or type, except it's a CMH, supposedly the new standard for Chicago streetlights).
Also, it's fairly common for the lights to be fully assembled before planting
. When I was about 8 years old (1965) I had the privilege of seeing a fully assembled Jocelyn light installed during a street widening project in my neighborhood
