I guess GE wants to make sure their butts are covered lol. They don't want any liability law suits. It's just a light bulb though. They make it sound like radioactive waste or something.
Does a halogen capsule really produce UV radiation? i thought they gave off mostly light in the red end of the spectrum? Common sense would suggest removing a broken lamp regardless though lol. I've never heard of anyone "inspecting" their light bulbs either lol. I look at lighting wherever I go, but that's because I'm a lightint nut lol. The average person doesn't look at lights unless it's something really out of the box like a big chandelier with all sorts of bling on it or something really ornate.
Ah that's true. It's cool how quartz lets UV pass through but glass doesn't. Are germicidal lamps made of quartz to allow the UV to pass through or are they just a different type of glass?
Ah so they shouldn't be handled with bare hands then. There's a blackender Sylvania F15T8 germicidal lamp in a cabinet for safety goggles in my construction class. It's not used though. It's got the lifeline-era etch with the slanted plus symbol. I've considered asking for the lamp, though the "fixture" looks to be integral to the cabinet, though i could probably salvage the ballast and sockets from it. Don't want to take apart the whole thing though. I plan to bring a pair of F40T12s and one F32T8 to fix a couple lights in the shop since the costodians don't do squat. They haven't changed a single lamp since everything became T8. There's only one missout on the whole campus and it doesn't light, so I plan to bring a couple lamps and pop them in so it will at least work before they decide to go around and replace all the EOL lamps and realize that it's still T8 and reballast it (or worse, stick T8s in it with the magnetic T12 ballast!)
