Cooper Lighting OVH
This was taken down temporarily for a constrution project on Union BLVD and 6th Avenue (Or US 6 Freeway)

This was closer to 4th Ave though.

Weird thing is this had electric tape around the fixture! And the hinges are just fine, and so is the latch. I wonder why they put electric tape around it. I could assume the workers who took it down did that but when the tape got taken off it seems there was a nice clean streak under it.

I would of taken it... But I asked them and they said they were putting hte light back up where it was, so I left it there.

This was on a Typical Lakewood Davit pole. Didn't get picture cause of the people around it.

I wonder.. Why would this have electric tape if the door was fine? The hinges weren't broken and the door was secure. It was HARD to open this thing!

I don't know....

I think I know why they replaced every fixture with OVH's...

The guy at the Lakewood Public Works told me that they were changing out all 400 watt lights with 250 watt HPS, to save electricity. All the lights on most of the roads were 400 watt I think.. So they replaced all the 400 watt ones with 250 watt OVH's... And you usually see the OVH replacements on big roads, where I guess there would of been 400 watt fixtures before.

Do you think it was necessary to do that?

I don't see why not. Most of our busy roads here are lit with 250W HPS M-250R2s on every pole. They're drop lens though. The road is decently lit. I guess it depends on how busy the road is and how many lanes there are.

That is stupid, streetlights are a flat rate anyways and while they do charge more for higher wattages the cost of replacing each fixture would seem to defeat that point, I think to replace each light is around $300.

Yeah most utilities don't get huge discounts on lights. Back in 2009-2010, Cranston shut off some of the streetlights. It cost $75 to turn off EACH light according to the newspaper. And it was the same price to turn back on every light six months later after a headache of complaints about dark streets. So you're looking at $150 per light for one-third of all the streetlights in Cranston. which is probably more than the city saved by shutting them off in the first place. Rolling Eyes I got a free open cap and brand new PC from it though. Smile

Well if your order like LOTS Of OVH's it would be less since you are ordering in bulk, I would guess each fixture would cost about 30 dollars each? I dunno, ordering in bulk usually costs a lot less per fixture then ordering one at a time.

$30? - You wish! The company has to make a profit too... I would say around $90-$200 is the average price a company pays for a cobra plus the labour to install it which can probably double the price.

Well not that I approved that they replaced every fixture in Lakewood with an OVH. I think they could of stuck with the old fixtures, I don't think lots of 400 watts really make a difference in money then lots of 250 watts. xD The cost to replace it is much much more.

Over time it'll save them a lot more money than you think. In Providence they're doing just the opposite. They're changing out a good portion of the 250W HPS M-250R2 to 400W HPS M-400. Joe Maurath told me that NGrid orders in unthinkable quantities, which is why I saw Coopers with the old pre-2004 hinge design being put up as late as 2007. NGrid gets their fixtures as cheap as $50 a pop, which is probably why they're so wasteful.

Overtime isn't likely to happen, they'll likely be changed out to LED in the next few years. Rolling Eyes Beyond that fact, it is quite likely that it won't be bright enough.
