Painted white OV-15.
This is peculiar, a white OV-15, I thought it was a Cooper at first, until I looked at it closer.

I think they just painted it white to match the building. But this is interesting.

Actually it looks good in white!

There used to be a lot of white Westinghouse OV-15's in Indiana Township, PA until a high pressure sodium upgrade wiped them out in 2007.

Ugh, stupid people. Rolling Eyes Mad I hope the hinges aren't bound from being painted. If they are though, they should unbind from the weight of the door being lowered. At least they didn't get any paint on the glass. Looks like it's wearing a blue Ripley SunSwitch. Very Happy

They probably took the refractor off when they painted it, I mean they were probably smart enough to do so.

And they upgrade to High Pressure Sodium because it's more efficient. In 15 years or so, all HID lights in general would be wiped out in favor of LED's, because one, LED's don't have the harmful mercury, and are more efficient, and also turn on to full brightness almost instantly. So much better then an HID, though less interesting.. Sadly.

I doubt it. They probably just masked it off and spraypainted it. Often when buildings are "white-washed" they get a big spraygun and paint everything and just mask off certain stuff that is't supposed to be painted. They probably even painted the photocell and the fixture has probably just been relamped (and re-photocelled) since then.

LEDs have their advantages over HID, but they are in no way "better" than HIDs. Wink LEDs are much more sensitive and the driver are often very junky. Plus, LED fixtures are generally extremely hideous to look at and the light distribution is terrible. Very spotty and glarey. What we need are LED cobraheads, preferably drop lens ones. Hubbell and Cooper both make LED cobraheads. But other than that, all we have are Frankenfixtures for LED street lights. Mad Rolling Eyes Confused

I think GE has made some LED cobraheads. But yeah, I would like to see more LED cobraheads, but I dunno what would happen.

HID are more interesting and cooler in my opinion, but LEDs are the superior technology. Right now they are still in development, sooner, they will be perfected and work great. Technology is still advancing. HID will be obsolete in the future, but we still have a while until they are completely phased out.

There is a parking lot nearby my home which has early finned, buzzy M1000's painted white. They actually look as good as they sound.
