More Mercs in Ontario!
Found another string of mercs near Queenston, Ontario. Most of the lumes on this string were AE 13s instead of 115s though. More to come tomorrow.

Is mercury vapor ballast and fixtures banned in Canada like it is here in the US.
joe_347V   [Aug 18, 2011 at 02:03 AM]
I think they're not currently banned since I still see MV yardlights at some box stores here but they've proposed banning less efficient MV ballasts last year.

Mercury streetlights are pretty rare in Ontario though, a lot of places switched to sodium, even most rural areas too.

I think MV ballast production stopped, but remember, probe MH ballasts can still be ordered in Canada, so MV lamps can still be used. This light looks very gross.

Nice! I know of some MV too, @ Michael aren't probe start MH ballasts still available in the US? I though they where only banned from being installed at the factory in new fixtures but replacements could still be bought. And I'm pretty sure they don't make any MV ballasts any more, when I went to get one for my lifeguard back in December I couldn't get one, only a MH ballast that was rated for 175 watt MH and MV.

Probe start metal halide ballasts are still available in the US as replacements for fixtures made before 2009.

NU is still relamping existing MV fixtures around the area but as the fixtures fail, there being replaced with HPS fixtures. My M-250 R1 has a 175 watt MH ballast in it but I'm using a MV lamp in it so it still looks original.

probe MH ballasts are still made, but i was referring to the fixtures.
joe_347V   [Aug 19, 2011 at 03:06 AM]
I wonder if Canada banned probe start MH fixtures too?
streetlight98   [Aug 19, 2011 at 01:58 PM]
Nope from what i see on spec sheets it says export only or not for sale in US for probe MH. I think you can still buy new fixtures
gailgrove   [Aug 19, 2011 at 04:57 PM]
Yep, Canada has not banned probe MH in new fixtures, PSMH is better anyway, and I only really see them get installed now.

See? if people want to be efficient, they'll do it at their own costs without the government sticking their fingers in other peoples freedom. Mad Rolling Eyes
