Interesting my area only uses a single 4 way cluster in the middle if they're beacons.
Form109   [Nov 25, 2011 at 05:26 PM]
Texas tends to use what you see here,a dual-four way cluster in the middle and the two-direction clusters on the edges...seems a little excessive.
streetlight98   [Nov 26, 2011 at 01:48 AM]
The beacons in the woods of RI are simply two four-way clusters. They're just single heads though, not double like these.

i guess they want these to be real visable, these rural intersections might be dangerous at night because sometimes they're in really wooded areas and the side road turning onto the main road might not see traffic coming at night.

Well the good thing is if one light stops working, you go the rest........2 stops working you got 2 left, 3 stops working you got 1 working...finally all 4 breaks....LAWSUIT!

The ones here have had LEDs since the 90's and they're still going strong! Shocked Lot's of little "pixels" are are out thoguh.

Jace makes a very good point...redundency of extra signal heads.

why do we still call them "Pixles"? they're not pixels they're LED Diodes. Razz

When I don't wear my glasses ( which is usually always exept in school) the individual diodes are hard to identify. They look almost blended together. When I'm wearing my glasses, those flickering and dead diodes really bug me. Confused
Form109   [Nov 26, 2011 at 03:44 AM]
same here, and the dead and flickering patches do look quite ugly.
joe_347V   [Nov 26, 2011 at 03:54 AM]
Same here, that's one of things I don't like about LEDs.
Form109   [Nov 26, 2011 at 04:24 AM]
at least the Non-Incandescent look one's,if there's any Dead LED's in the Incandescent Look ones its harder to tell...if you can tell at all.
streetlight98   [Nov 26, 2011 at 02:19 PM]
Yeah. The lensed LEDs hide the bad diodes better, but at the same time affect brightness by the work crew not being able to detect a faulty device until it goes completly out. Also, those lensed LEDs have a very limited beam spread. On a windy day, the signal heads will rock back-and-fourth and the light will fade in and out, almost like a flashign light, but the fade in and fade out are slower and not a constant beat.
Form109   [Nov 26, 2011 at 09:44 PM]
i haven't noticed that honestly.
joe_347V   [Nov 26, 2011 at 09:49 PM]
Maybe your area dosen't use them, my area uses the new Dialights and they have a very limited viewing angle.
Form109   [Nov 26, 2011 at 09:52 PM]
we do use Incandescent-Look Modules in all our New Signals...the fade would be much less pronounced on Fixed-Mast setups than Spanwire setups which allow the signals a higher degree of motion in windy conditions.
streetlight98   [Nov 26, 2011 at 10:10 PM]
We actually use masts with the signals hung to the mast, similar to that of a highbay.
Form109   [Nov 26, 2011 at 10:25 PM]
i still don't notice it though,i haven't seen any fixed masts around here move enough in the wind to disturb their visibility...Spanwire's yes.
