Yes they are always on.....you are totally correct....I remember seeing those popping up and the old cylinder ones has very much been discontinued of use....except during my last visit in June.....I actually saw ONE orange cylinder one still working!!!!!!!

These look similar to those tall NY PCs. Are these similar to Boston's fire NEMA buckets?

Michael, This is IN NYC. NYC doesn't use tall PC it's a beacon light that goes in the PC and the orange regular PC goes on top of the beacon

oh yes, I've seen these the last time I went to NYC. The electric company in NYC which is Consolidated Edison uses upward facing PCs as well.

This is also the NYC "custom quarterloop arms" which the arm is actually roughly 10 years to 15 years newer than the pole itself...if you look carefully about 3 to 4 feet BELOW the arm mount....you will notice a small bump which used to be a small a brace mount for the previous arm which was a curved braced upsweep

cool! I didn't know that. This is the only place to where I've seen these arms to.

A curved braced upsweep like THIS?
GullWhiz   [Oct 10, 2011 at 01:58 AM]
Yep...I will show you some pics of the ones they either skipped or forgotten to do....

We have curved upsweeps with underbraces here too.

They're not the that common in Ontario, the braced S arm seems to be much more common here.
