Why is Boston replacing all their lights to LED?

I bet Tony would know being in the business in Massachusetts, DO you know, Tony?

Probably the smae reason why a lot of utilities on this side of the US are switchign over- electricity is too damn expensive! I think my parent's pay around 13-20 cents per kilowatt!
SeanB~1   [Dec 29, 2011 at 04:29 PM]
That is expensive. I pay around 15c per kWh, but of course the relative cost is much higher. Then again the squatters steal it and I have to do Die wet van Transvaal.
Antstar85   [Dec 29, 2011 at 05:05 PM]
That and the savings in maintence cost. Also they use less electricity and since the government is banning the old technology, it just seems practical to convert to the newer technology.

I think LEDs have great potential to replace HID sources, but they need some more improvements IMO.

Yeah, such as make LED street lights look more like the old luminaires, only moden with LED for fans of the old street lights can enjoy the classics with LED usage. But that's just my vision of improvement.

i like LED's in traffic signals and Various indicator applications but i'm so biased against them being used for streetlighting,i'd rather see induction..at least it's a gas discharge lamp.
streetlight98   [Dec 29, 2011 at 08:21 PM]
CMH is what i really want to see lighting the roads. It's still HID and the fixtures are still cobraheads instead of those induction fixtures that look like aliens or LED fixtures that look like run over coke cans. I don't see CMH taking over though. NGrid aviods andthing MH like the flu.
