CEO of the now-defunct OPTISOFT brand
Ted Enloe, the CEO of OptiSoft showing a circuit board that was offered in their line of "Smart" traffic signals. This one is a car crash/gun shot detector. When a car crash occurs at the intersection, the traffic signal will call up 911 for you. Pretty nifty!

When OPTISOFT went bankrupt, the signal was redesigned slightly and now manufacturered by INTELIGHT. The car crash detector was not carried over.

I won't be surprise that the 'Smart' Traffic Signal circuit was not really popular product due to that there may be the result of multiple false alarm on this detector Confused

One of the reasons why it wasnt carried over to Intelight. Imagine the amount of 911 calls during the fourth of July.........

Very interesting concept. Needed more R&D along with most of Optisoft's stuff.

bleh the smart signal circuit.

Smart signal=first traffic signal to get an energy star label, first traffic signal to run 100% on LED, first traffic signal to incorporate homeland security, first traffic signal incorporate communications. Lots of firsts. Optisoft would've been big if they didn't have a failed pedestrian signal concept that cost Los Angeles thousands of dollars. Intelight has already won awards for the redesign of the vehicle signal.

What exactly was the problem with those pedestrian signals, I've seen a few on eBay before.

The first generation of pedestrian signals were designed and used in a big trial with the city of Los Angeles. The first versions were extremely dim (the one on ebay is a first version) and had extremely high fail rates. The city of LA sued Optisoft and had to have every one taken out and replaced with (ironically) incandescent, before going back to LED of other brands. Optisoft lost all their money paying legal fees and labor costs, on top of repairs. A second version was made that was alot more reliable and matched brighteness with conventional incandescent and LED but Optisoft was already to far gone financially
