Just wondering, when did they switch from yellow paint to flat black paint under the visors. I've only seen a few older signals with yellow paint under the visors here.

flat black under the yellow visor was always an option. It became a requirement sometime in the late 1960s or so. Poly signal visors are molded one color throughout and painted flat black to keep light from showing through the visor.
