Something I'd like to start seeing more of...

Dunno as most everyone is converting to LED lighting. Downtown Buffalo at the Medical Campus and along Carlton St. already have LED lights.

Yeah LEDs seem to be the next HPS... Here NGrid is still full-steam ahead with HPS though. The only LED street lights here are test sites up in the small Pascoag Utililty District, a small Co-Op in the Northwest corner of RI. Downtown providence has some induction acorn post tops, converted from HID. the light is much more pleasing than LED, looks a lot like a /DX merc but with better CRI. They should have used a higher wattage though since they're not bright at all.

From what I understand, the City of Buffalo owns the poles and foundations, NGrid owns the wiring, conduit, and fixtures. The plan is to have the city take everything over as streets are converted to LED. Ellicott St. north of Goodell, and Carlton St. between Michigan and Jefferson Avenues are LED.

I'm not sure how the freeway lighting is owned here. Tapered elliptical and truss poles with lights that have individual PCs are owned and serviced by NGrid. Lights on davit poles with PCs I'm unsure of. The new relay-controlled lighting systems that are installed here are installed by RISE which is a group of contractors that NGrid contracts projects out to. I don't know who services those though.

The relay-controlled lighting here, whether it's brand new FCO M-400s or Cooper OVMs from the 80s or M-400R2s from the 90s, is very well maintained. The majority of the lights work. With the lights that have individual PCs, up until the past year or two, most didn't work. NGrid seems to have gotten a good number of them working but they're already going out again. I think with some installations wiring is to blame though, not necessarily the lamps. But they tend to be half-assing their repair jobs with the freeway lighting. I've noticed they have stopped processing light reports too. When i report a light out on a wood pole they just don't respond and I've noticed a good number of lights cycling recently. When they do respond they've told me that "Dear Customer, thank you for reporting this street light outage. the normal time for repairs is 7-10 business days however we are backed up with these requests, some being weeks away from resolve. The order has been issued, however, and the order number is xxxxxxxxxxxx."
