Work lights
The power company is putting in new utility vaults and wiring about a mile from my house and they do their work at night, using a pair of these 1000w x4 metal halide flood lights powered by what appears to be a Kobota diesel generator. This one uses BT-37 reduced-envelope lamps mounted parallel to their reflectors; the other light tower had BT-56 lamps mounted with the base inwards in round reflectors.

Never seen those type of fixtures used as area work lights
I am more used to seeing the round reflector ones
