I wonder how it got in that fixture.
gailgrove   [Mar 14, 2011 at 02:34 PM]
I bet it went in the bottom of the arm.

Gross....makes my stomach churn! Shocked

Shocked Shocked Shocked I live in Rhode Island, so no snakes here, but gosh! Disturbing indeed! Did it startle you at first?
Silverliner14B   [Mar 15, 2011 at 12:03 AM]
Ewwww! Looks like the snake may have been attracted to the warmth of the luminaire.

This is going to make me turn away from street lighting contractor. I would have to go up and open the fixture to dead animals, bugs, and more things I just HATE.

That's a unpleasant surprise, I didn't know snakes could climb up the pole. Shocked
lite_lover   [Mar 15, 2011 at 06:03 AM]
That's nasty, looks like it was a good size snake.

Yes Ian, you will see dead animals in streetlights...

Gmercury has a streetlight that was removed due to a fire because 2 dead squirrels was inside it! You will always see something, bird nests, dead birds, all kinds of bugs...dead and alive!

Joe and Darren, I have seen bigger snakes than this one, one of my old neighbors called my dad that there was a big snake on his porch and he was afraid of it, so my dad asked me to come with him and help take the snake. First my dad took a stick he kinda moved it away from the porch with the stick towards a tree...and the snake started climbing on a tree...and my dad grabbed the snake by its neck very near its mouth (which makes it impossible for the snake to open its mouth and bite) and I grabbed the snake by it's tail (it was a strong and kinda heavy snake, it was about 6 feet long or so and was in black color) So when we grabbed it, the neighbor came out and we kinda had fun with that dumb snake while my dad kept holding its neck, my dad put the snakes face on my nose.....the snake was defenseless......then we both while holding the long snake...we went where the forest near us was....which was just behind our old house not too far off maybe 3 houses worth away. We had to be prepared to free it....because...once my dad lets go of the snakes neck...it could attack....so we had to carefully swing the snake far enough from us but we don't hurt the snake and the snake hurt us....1...2...3...we threw him into some tall grass near a bunch of trees about 5 feet away and we jumped away making sure he doesn't attack us!!!

Oh I also currently live inside a forest...so I have seen snakes that got ran over by cars!

I've noticed birds nests and paper bees nests in streetlights but nothing compared to this.
gmercury2000   [Mar 15, 2011 at 10:27 PM]
Yeah this was a first for me as well! I dont mind bees as they are less active at night! Thank goodness this sucker was dead! There was also a good 6-8 inches not seen due to that part that was tangeled up in the wiring!
streetlight98   [Mar 15, 2011 at 10:44 PM]
Did this get a new lens, this one seems a bit yellowed.
GullWhiz   [Mar 15, 2011 at 10:46 PM]
Knowing Gmercury dude....yeah he replaced it! But not everyone around here replaces refractors, but this lineman is good enough to do it!
gmercury2000   [Mar 15, 2011 at 10:58 PM]
Yup it got a nice new GE plastic refractor Wink
streetlight98   [Mar 15, 2011 at 10:58 PM]
I do like seeing these, though i feel bad for you, gmercury2000. It gives me a hint as to what I'll be dealing with if I decide to be a lineman. I like the OVZ.
gmercury2000   [Mar 15, 2011 at 11:02 PM]
It's really not too bad! This is a rare find. The birds are more so just nasty but their no danger really. After dealing with them a few times you get used to it

OVZ Mini?....since when is there an OVZ "Mini"?
