GE H100DX38-4 mercury lamp.
Here's the oldest lamp of a lot of ten 100W mercury vapour lamps I won on eBay recently. I'm not sure if this lamp was made in the late 60s or late 70s, anyone knows?

This is a pic from the eBay seller BTW, credits go to him.

GE redid their mercury/metal halide ordering codes in 1980. All standard lamps now include the "R" in the prefix (HR/MVR). Saf-T-Gard lamps are still HT/MVT.

when did they redo the etch? i don't think they still use this etch. isn't this the bonusline etch (but without the designation)?
NiMo   [Aug 14, 2013 at 01:31 AM]
GE changed the etch somewhere in the late 80s.

Ahh. I sort of miss the old GENERAL (GE) ELECTRIC etch but i guess it was time to "retire the relics" lol.

I guess GE thought the etch was a bit outdated Razz

83? Does GE put the year on they're bulbs?
joe_347V   [Aug 15, 2013 at 05:22 AM]
Probably not, the 83 is most likely a date code. Most bulb makers had their own date code system and it sometimes even varied between the type of bulbs made.

Some newer bulbs like Philips have the actual date stamped on the lamp sleeve though.

I was given a 400w Philips MH lamp awhile back that has APRIL 25 2005 on the sleeve...it was NOS until I fired it...I've fired it a few times and put maybe 3-4 hours on it...

Some of the Sylvania mercs had a date on the sleeve too. Those were made by Philips for Sylvania during the early-mid 2000s. I've seen a pic of a Philips T5 with the date and time stamped on the endcap too.

yeah i think Philips made some of Sylvania lamps until Sylvania decided to start making chinese MV lamps (are the HPS and MH and PSMH lamps made in china too?)

IIRC, the mogul based Sylvania HPS and MH lamps are USA made while the medium based HPS are from Mexico. Not sure about the medium based MH since I'll have to check mine.
