A Pole with Multiple Personalities
Here's a truss pole with a tapered elliptical added to it- or is it a tapered elliptical pole with a truss arm added to it? Looks kinda funny IMO. The truss doesn't light anything since all traffic enters from the ramp, which is lit by the tapered elliptical. I've never seen these lit at night.

For those interested, this is the Henderson Bridge, which connects Providence and East Providence.

The truss arm is definitely older, since it's over a decommissioned part of the road. When they shifted the lanes or moved it, they added the other arm. Both might still light up, I'm not sure. You should see what it looks like at night!

That part with the truss was never used at all. This actually isn't a freeway but it was built like one. I guess there were plans to make it a freeway but they fell through. They both have power. Whether they work or not I don't know but those dark PCs mean that NGrid relamped it in the past few years.

I'm actually thinking they are the same age, as NECo's standard was to use these tapered ellipticals on the ramps and the trusses on the freeway portions, I've just never seen them on the same pole like that. NGrid mis-matches the tapered elliptcals and trussed with spot replacements (when they decide to do spot replacements).

in case you're wondering what this random section of freeway looks like, here's an aerial view. The pic above is from here.

cool, I can see land right of ways cleared for a planned expressway to the east of the river. Wikipedia indicates it was to tie into the fallen trough US44 expressway. We have some planning blunder history like this around Toronto too.

Yep, they cleared land all the way up to Rte 44 (well, it's not that far lol). They turned where it was supposed to end into a Park-and-Ride lot.
