Rocky Point Park Lights: Guarding the Main Gate
This OV-400 guards the main gate. The Rocky Point Park sign is no more and the OV-400 that stood on the opposite side of the gate is gone, pole and all. I looked for the base and it's gone too. this one only has a small chip of it's refractor left on the house side.

Probably more than just a chip of glass...probably a ring of glass.....the chip wouldnt stay if there was nothing to hold it there hehehehe

I was thinking the refractor clip in the back was holding it in or the pressure of the door and reflector against the chip was holding it in. I didn't see any glass at all besides that but you're probably right since I didn't really have a chance to study it closely. The next time I go i'll bring my binoculars so I can look closely at the lights. Smile

It's nice that you can get in there and take photos. I love urban exploration of abandoned places, but it's a bit risky usually, not just due to derelict buildings, but cops and "security" patrols. It's sad to see so many of these kinds of places going away and being replaced with housing developments and commercial establishments. In my area, we recently lost a golf driving range to an office park, a drive-in movie theatre to a hospital emergency room, and an amusement park to an art gallery. I was looking at the Rocky Point tribute web site (beware the music) and there are lots of photos showing the floodlights and admiring all those happy people running around with their fashionable 70's clothes and haircuts. I really miss these kinds of places.

Yeah it's truely sad. this place is open to the public though now (well, a small bike path that they paved where the main entrance road was) and that's how I got these pics. the light on the left in this pic is the light above while the light on the right in this pic is gone in the pic above.
