Abandoned OV-25 and a M-250R2
There was likely another OV-25 or possibly a M-400 where the M-250R2 is now. The OV-25 was there before the shopping plaza was built. Whatever this lit previously was long gone before I was born. Needless to say, the OV-25 doesn't work. It has a faded reddish-orange photocell in it so this light either has a 240V PC or an open cap in it. This pole was renewed about a month ago and i thought fo sure the OV-25 wasn't going to make it, but thankfully both lights were transfered to the new pole even though the westie serves no purpose currently. There was a M-250R bail latch to the left of the pic, but it and its utility pole were taken down when this plaza was constructed. There's a PF-1000 a couple of poles behind this shot too and it doesn't work and it has the same photocell/open cap in it. I always distictively remember the "red knobs" on those three lights ever since I saw them. I hope to get this guy eventually, but for now it doesn't seem to be in any danger.

As you can see by the white "X" near the bottom of the pole, the pole was in for a renewal, which it got three years later for some reason.

Interesting, I know of a setup just like this, only instead of a M250R2 the other light is a R47 (now I believe an OVX), you can see that here . That OV-25 once lit the train station parking lot but now doesn't work, I think its HPS but the possibility exists that it could be a merc, that's unlikely though. I wonder if it is still powered up at night since it doesn't have a PC receptacle, I'm not sure if it's even connected. There is also a 115 just down the road that also doesn't work, it is 250 watt HPS.

Hmm. That looks really similar to this one. I find it odd how one, this was missed out in the HPS conversion, two this was never taken down when the new plazza was made, and three the OV-25 made it to the new pole. Of course i'm happy about it though. Very Happy The M-250R2 was changed out recently too. This one in the pic was out for a while. I guess i was too late with reporting it. here is the PF-1000. There are quite a few of those around here in 1000w MV. They get replaced with 400w HPS floods as the lamps dies though. Many probably still have the old lamps. i noticed if one is a dayburner, they'll repalce the PC but the old lamp will remain in there. i'm guessing they don't carry 1KW mercury lamps and they don't want to mess around with taking the flood down if they don't have to. Laughing I want the smaller version of this flood though (not the current PF-400).

Cool, seems odd they wouldn't carry 1kW, it would make sense and is cheaper than replacing the fixtures. There are two of the smaller PF400s here, they lit that "parking lot" while the hospital (in the background) was in operation, they still were powered (not lit though) up until last month, now the power has been cut so I sense their removal in the near future. The hospital is also being demolished which I think I've posted about before, I hope to get some Powerlites, Holophanes and AEs from it. Razz

The only mercury lamps they appear to relamp are 100 watt ones. Any others get replaced upon serviceing, except 1000w MV floods, which stay up until the lamp fails or ballast fails. i noticed from old pictures that Narragansett Electric used M-400 and OV-25 very interchangeably. Some roads had M-400 and OV-25 every-other pole while others had more M-400 or more OV-25. All of the floods i've seen seem to be GE though. Basically any 400w merc around here is in some state of dispare. Sad BTW, hope you get some lights. Cool

Duquesne Light never relamps their mercury vapor streetlights anymore, and anytime a pole renewal is done the fixture gets replaced too.

UPDATE:
[4/9/12]
That sucks. i don't even think they check the lights when they renew poles here. They transferred a M-250R2 with a dead lamp and birds nest to a new pole a few streets down from me. Rolling Eyes After I reported it, they went back out and put up a new M-250R2. The light was out ever since i moved into the neighborhood back in 2003. The pole was renewed in 2009 and i reported it later in '09 as well.

I found out this was actually turned off so it may still work if it was repowered, though if it is ever brough back to service, a 400W HPS M-400 will likey appear on the pole.
gailgrove   [Apr 20, 2012 at 10:48 PM]
It doesn't surprise me that they don't check the lights, it's not their job, another crew more than likely is in charge of lights, I'd guess they don't even carry lamps/fixtures with them.
streetlight98   [Apr 20, 2012 at 11:02 PM]
Probably. They transfer the wires, transformers, (excluding phone company wires and boxes), and streetlights all in one shot though. Then the phone company comes and does their thing. You'd think the crew would notice a bird nest sticking out of a broken refractor though while transferring the arm/light over to the new pole though.
