Iwasaki HSCR-165H11H (Hitachi CP-S335, CP-X345) 165w
My digital projector lamp. (One of many.) It was used on either Hitachi CP-S335 or CP-X345. I found out that these UHP lamps can go well above 3000PSI while running. That's a lot of pressure inside a tiny 1~3mm arc gap burner!

Are you sure that UHP is a short of "Ultra High Performance" and not "Ultra High Pressure"?
FGS   [Sep 24, 2010 at 07:25 PM]
It's both. I call UHP as Ultra High Pressure. The site where I found the pressure it ran said Ultra High Performance.

Officially (Philips) UHP stands for "Ultra High Performance", but in the unofficial circles it also goes by the name of "Ultra High Pressure", which is an apt name given the internal pressure of 200 bar!

"Ultra High Performance" seems to be more sensible term for the commercial short term UHP then "Ultra high Pressure". After all, this is the innovation which is responsible for having propelled the digital projectors market to its vast popularity it shares today. In fact, the UHP lamp is responsible for penetrating the digital projectors to the recreation places and the household market, since digital projectors that uses UHP lamps have considerably lower initial cost (In Israel, MH digital projectors in the past for schools and academy costed in the 100,000s NIS and today, UHP digital projectors can be cost as low as in the 10,000s NIS and even less) and are much more light and compact then digital projectors that uses MH lamps (In fact, many UHP digital projectors can be moved from one location to another, very easy, almost like a laptop).
Before the invention of the UHP lamps, digital projectors were used only in the education and the the academy.
The reason why Philips won the Emmy award for technology and engineering for this innovation, is becuase the majority of the UHP digital projectors, used as a TV, video and home cinema projectors, an application that was really nonexisted for digital projectors before the innovation of the UHP lamps.
