I have an exact match of the reflector. A Two lamp F40 was at someone's curb so i took the reflector home on my bike and came back for the fixture. The ballast was a RS Universal brand with a torn label. The sockets unfortunatly broke off and i don't have any F40 lamps to test the ballast with. I still have the balast and fixture though.

Nice save on that fixture! Smile
These have Universal brand RS ballasts as well..
(a couple of the lamp holders on one of mine got broken too - it was siting in the garage..probably got kicked or something LOL those lampholders are pretty fragile)

The only difference is that i don't think the lampholders were Y-shaped and the reflector was held on by a black metal clip instead of a wing nut. There's a pic of the ballast in my gallery. I unfourtunaly cannot test it though. Sad

Similar (but not identical) to my Sears shoplight...still a nice save!
What did this have for lamps? Is this paint job original or did you restore this?
If these have "RAPID START LAMPS ONLY" stamped into the reflector they might be Sears like mine...minus the GE BonusLine ballast...

The paint is original, there's no 'rapid start lamps' stamp on it. I don't remember what the lamps were I just put them with the rest of my spare lamps.

I peeked in 2 of these again tonight & ithere's a GE BonusLine ballast (only listed 40w lamps), so either I was mistaken before when I said "Universal Ballast" or one has a different ballast

Wow...might be a Sears like mine! What's up with all these GE BonusLine and Advance and Universal ballasts all of a sudden? Laughing Because they last!
xmaslightguy   [Jan 20, 2013 at 02:50 AM]
Yep they last, unlike some of that modern...stuff

I agree! I love these older rapid start ballasts!

Hmm my oldest rapid start ballast is the Feb. 1973 Universal ballast in my restored shoplite. i also have a two lamp Advance Mark III ballast from May 1997 and a VALMISER Valmont Electric ballast from pre-1994 though i don't know a true date (date code is "YJ"). I also have a NPF single lamp Universal "replacement ballast" with the annoying short leads. I haven't tested it because i don't have any solid wire i can use to extend the ballast leads to the lamp holders. It's from Feb. 1983 or 1985 IIRC...

I also have one of those green/yellow label Universals...
