Mini Gumball
Here's a old mini gumball on a section of road that was bypassed when they put a railway overpass next to it. It dosen't work at night anymore though. I'm guessing this light was simply forgotten when the road was bypassed and wasn't replaced with a tapered E arm and a FCO HPS light...the standard in Richmond Hill.

Come by at night with a bucket truck and while you're up there save the arm and the remote PC socket too. It's just screaming for someone to save it.
gailgrove   [Jul 16, 2011 at 02:45 AM]
Yeah Razz
joe_347V   [Jul 16, 2011 at 02:52 AM]
Yeah it's odd how they transferred the light when they changed the pole too since they probably know that light isn't used anymore.
gailgrove   [Jul 16, 2011 at 02:56 AM]
I guess the crew is just told to change over every light, since the utility companies aren't in charge of the street lights, if I was a lineman working on that I'd of just taken the light.

And now it just sits there forgotten, I bet you the rest of the lights used to mini gumballs too before they got replaced with HPS.

GullWhiz   [Mar 19, 2013 at 04:54 PM]
Flying there to get it NOW!
streetlight98   [Mar 19, 2013 at 07:43 PM]
I'd love to just climb up the pole and stick a new lamp and PC up there to get it going again. Sure I'd love to have it but i'd also love to see this lighting the foliage below.
joe_347V   [Mar 19, 2013 at 11:30 PM]
Yeah me too, I think these usually used low wattage lamps too maybe 200w incandescent or 100w MV at the most.
streetlight98   [Mar 19, 2013 at 11:40 PM]
yeah there's probably a medium base socket in there. i find it odd how high up this is. here the incandescents left behind are about 20-25 feet at the most but this looks about 35-40 feet up there! maybe when the pole was renewed it was installed higher than it used to be?

I'm guessing from looking at the streetview that you were either on the train or on the tracks when this pic was taken?
joe_347V   [Mar 20, 2013 at 02:21 AM]
Hehe I wasn't on a train or the tracks but I was in a yard next to them. Razz

They're mounted pretty high up too it's the same height as the HPS cobras, most of the gumballs in Toronto around mounted around 20-30 feet up.
streetlight98   [Mar 20, 2013 at 06:37 PM]
hmm. i can't see a 200W lamp lighting much at 40ft up high lol. probably dimmer than a 35W HPS. Laughing
