Probably running out of fuel Confused

Sometimes if you set the knob of your cigarette lighter at the side of + (Maximum flame size, maximum butane flow), it makes such a strange flame.
This is usually occurs in cheapee cigarette lighters, if the flow and the burning rate of the butane is too high and the size of the flame exceeds the maximum. Than the flame appears as not in contact with the lighter.

The flow rate is so high that the flame front is in the air. If you lower the flame size it will drop down to burn on the outlet of the mixing nozzle, as normal.

rijluna2 is correct...the lighter is running out of fuel didn't know it at the time til i struck the lighter and it would light anymore.

but i've heard of what dor123 & seanB~1 are speaking of...and i think they have some youtube videos of it...still pretty neat though. Very Happy

My guess is that there's just enough fuel to keep the flame going, more fuel would make the combustion start lower.

The cool thing is that you can crop the picture to only keep the flame, and tell the world you have magic powers Razz
