1940? Incandescent ballasted Fluorescent Fixture
The Real Deal!!!
I'd been looking for one of these early type fixtures for a LONG time!
It has two F14T12 fluorescent lamps wired in series with an intermediate base incandescent bulb instead of a ballast.

Nice find, Henry Cool

I bet the fixture is lot lighter than the regular fixture Smile

Thanx!! Very Happy
Yup, it's light weight, or did you mean brighter? Laughing It's attached to a jointed arm for mounting to a desk or something.

Sweet! If one of the three lamps goes, does the whole fixture go dark? Seems like this works on the same principle as self-ballasted mercury vapor lamps? I wonder why they don't make SBMV HPS lamps lol.

Yep I believe everything in these is in series which means they would all go out. I guess the closest thing they made to a SB-HPS were those HPS ballast adapters. I've seen SB-CMH lamps in use at most stores now too.

I tried making a SB-HPS with a 150w Incandescent lamp in series with 150w HPS lamp. Had to get it warmed up first on a normal ballast and I used an BBQ ignitor to strike the lamp with the incandescent lamp on. Very unstable but it did light up and hold for a few seconds. Mebbe a variac would help with it. And one of those euro HPS lamps with the glowbottle starter in them.

I think the easiest way to make a SBHPS lamp would to use one of those EYE internal ignitor lamps. I think my friend has a 70W HPS screw-in ballast adapter in the front light towards the driveway. His dad has a few HPS floods as well and a wallpack over the garage door. There are two lamp F40T12/RS strips in one side of the basement and one lamp F96T12 slimline strips on the other half. I'm in charge of relamping lol. Very Happy
