Slimline History Repeats Itself I Guess...
Some of you may remember my first slimline acquisition last April. Anyhow I scored four more F96 fixtures a few days ago. They're made by Metalux Lighting. Originally it would appear they all had Magnetek/Universal Watt-Reducer 1.34a ballasts, though the one pictured here has a 1.25a Advance Mark III that appears to be a replacement judging by spliced wires. Ironically this Mark III performs better with 60w lamps in cold than a 1.45a Advance I also have! I think the consensus on Lighting-gallery.net is that the older Advance's capacitor is going; 80s era Advance ballasts are known to do this.
Anyway this specicmen now lives in my junk room leaned up in a corner and plugged into a switched outlet. I'm using it as the main general lighting in there right now. Not many households have a slimline humming away in a living space! But I sure do!
Lamps pictured are my only slimline lamps, a pair of Sylvania F96T12/CW/SS from 1996, which came with my first slimline, a Lithonia with that dying Advance ballast.
