My neck of the woods
I did not take this picture.

This is 21 Mile and Van Dyke Ave. in Shelby Twp, MI. Upgrading. The original signals are Eagle with Dialight Red LED and incandescent everything else, running on a four-phase pretimed EPIC140 controller. The new signals use dual ring phasing and FYA Lefts, and all GE GT1 LEDs. New setup is vehicle and pedestrian actuated, coordinated, and running on an EPAC M50. The new signals are Econolite, not Eagle. Reason being is because they're cheaper. Eagle left turn was flashing red.

cheaper, but do they make as high a quality signal as eagle?

no Econolite has their signals made in Mexico, same as McCain and Peek. The quality isn't there. They bought cheaper because they need to balance the budget with all the new expensive equipment in the cabinet. You're looking at about $25,000 in the cabinet alone.

Should also mention that Econolite and McCain also sell visors seperate from the signal, where Eagle has visors included on each signal. So actually the visors on the signals are aluminum, and the body is plastic.

Another tidbit of information, the plans call for ALL PLASTIC. Which includes plastic red sections on single-point mount doghouses. Enjoy that crashing through your roof.

Yum Tim Hortons! Razz
Anyways nice shot, I've always though span wire setups look kind of tacky though.

span wires can be tacky, i agree with you there. But MDOT and the county have really perfected their installation, Nice and clean look with the tight fit cable and metal span wire.

Some places keep the metal spans loose from the cabling in order to be able to string more wire if needed but that can look messy and unfinished.

Span traffic lights were common in MD...but more mast style are being used more...but a few still have span wires if its very LOOOONG! But seems a lot of span wires style are being replaced with masts now days...

In Chicago and Illinois area.....there are NO span wire traffic lights!!!

Here we only ever have span wires as temporary signals.

Some Northwest outside Chicago suburban area may have span wire traffic lights. Mostly the span wire are used in the construction area as temporary holders.

In metro Atlanta area, some intersection are transforming from span wires to mast, especially when they are upgrading the intersection.

There's a span wire setup that's been up for around 8-9 years in my area, it looks a bit neater than the other temporary ones since they trimmed the cable instead of looping it next to the signal heads.

Oh trust me Joe...that's how it is right here...permanent ones are neater than the temps!

Here the new span wire setups are very neat. I like the mast setups better though. The masts are more common here but span wire is still used sometimes.
