Econolite Bullseye
Thought I would get a photo of one of them because the one across from this one was replaced a few days ago. Very rare signal still in service here. BTW these are the same signal lol.

I think these are the only known Econolite bullseye signals left in the entire GTA. Nice catch.
Model25FanForever   [Feb 09, 2018 at 11:42 AM]
Theres just a handful left it seems. I can name them off pretty much, these 3 here , this 1 here , one here and with the last one some several meters away here

That's more than I thought. I'll have to say the front of the Econolite bullseyes looks almost identical to a CGE. It seems like some of the bulleyes you linked are on their second set of LEDs. Would be a treat to come across one that's still equipped with glass reflectors and lenses though.

If Peel Region is going to get the reflective backboards, I wonder if they would retrofit these as well Smile

I think Peel and Durham are the only two regional municipalities that still don't use the reflective backboards in the GTA... Correct me if I'm wrong
Model25FanForever   [Mar 10, 2018 at 12:37 PM]
Yeah there are a few other cities like Alliston that haven't started using reflective backplates. Theres a few reflective backplated signals in peel region, Dixie and Rathburn have a couple.

I think these would just get replaced. I think CGE's here stand a better chance than Econolite Bullseyes Laughing

I think they were Toronto backboard leftovers (Guild services both Peel and Toronto) so I'm guessing that's all they had for the ones at Dixie/Rathburn. Dixie/Bloor has one signal with them too but the yellow and green LEDs are still original from the first conversion. Surprised that some signals along Dixie don't have the newer LEDs
Model25FanForever   [Mar 11, 2018 at 02:54 PM]
Yeah that whole project was bizarre in terms of signals. I think the Econolite signal installs were all brand new. The fortrans were probably refurbs or they kept most of the original signals and put them back up. I was glad to see they left the Mark IV 12-8-8-12 alone, and what really surprised me was the 8-8-8 on golden orchard was left untouched. The winding trail 8-8-8's survived but after got replaced with new 12-8-8 Fortrans which were probably guild spot replacements.
Kelvin3157   [Mar 11, 2018 at 05:22 PM]
Yeah Rathburn had the new Econolites installed with their factory new LEDs, but one year later they got replaced with EOIs Rolling Eyes

That project was a mess. They had new signals with old LEDs, old signals with new LEDs, and new signals with new LEDs, being the new LEDs replaced one year later, and weird LED matchups, and leaving the older signals untouched..

Speaking of Econolite Bullseyes there's also one at Dundas/Dixie
Model25FanForever   [Mar 12, 2018 at 03:12 AM]
Yeah im finding peel region is starting to like using Econolite signals. Mostly with the greenish yellow backplates.

Yeah I bet they just went through them all and kept the good ones and the ones with LED`s that have gone out were replaced.

There`s a bullseye signal around there?
Kelvin3157   [Mar 12, 2018 at 03:21 AM]
Yes, facing Dixie SB as a left turn signal I believe
Model25FanForever   [Mar 12, 2018 at 01:16 PM]
That one would be an Eagle mark IV Cool , Too bad one of them was replaced 2 years ago, I think that is the only 12-12-12 mark IV I have seen in use here. At least in the GTA I don't think I have seen any other types of bullseyes here except for 12-8-8's.
Kelvin3157   [Mar 12, 2018 at 01:27 PM]
Never mind, it was NB facing Dixie. It's a 12-8-8-12.

Interestingly enough, this setup is one of the rare ones because it only contains one advanced green left turn signal, instead of the usual two.

There was also one facing WB Dundas but that one has since been replaced with a Fortran
Model25FanForever   [Mar 13, 2018 at 03:06 AM]
Ah if im not mistaken those are aluminium Eagle Durasigs. You can tell by the eagle on the back of each housing section. The best comparison of the Aluminium and Poly I could find is here.

What gives the Bullseyes distinct look I find is the size of the backplate, and there are several round descending circles on the red housing.

Yeah I think that Dundas signal was hit by a car or truck, just not hard enough to break the pole as it was leaning back a lot.
Kelvin3157   [Mar 13, 2018 at 03:25 AM]
Yeah the size of the backplate also looks similar to some other Econolite bubble backs I have seen in east Scarborough, but some are being replaced with the reflective backplates and new unknown LEDs
joe_347V   [Mar 13, 2018 at 08:04 AM]
I believe that signal (NB Dixie left advance) is a LFE/Automatic signal...kinda rare here. There's another one at Cawthra and Dundas although only the arrow section, the rest is a Eagle Mark IV.
Model25FanForever   [Mar 13, 2018 at 09:28 PM]
Yeah LFE didn't come to mind when seeing those signals, It gets very tricky because of the LFE and Eagle signals looking very close alike. it seemed a lot of the Eagle Mark IV's got an LFE arrow. I belive LFE and Eagle merged at sometime too?
joe_347V   [Mar 14, 2018 at 11:38 PM]
Yeah the LFEs are a bit tricky, they sorta look like Eagles and even CGEs from certain angles. I'm sure when but yeah LFE and Eagle ended up merging sometime although the only LFE product I believe still made is the poly LFE.

Nice find! I thought I seen them all but apparently not. Square one area used to have some too.

Interesting, there's a single Econolite grooveback 8" flasher on Broadview but that's about it for old Econolites in Toronto.
