The Last Of Its Kind In Downtown Des Plaines
Once one of many Form 109s is the last one standing since the changeover about 20 years ago. Hopefully, they left it up for posteritys sake (it's still in service) and have no plans to remove it. Time will tell.

Considering the age and historical value of these you think they would of converted them to a new source like CMH and then replaced the wiring and bases.

they think nothing of fixtures....even if they are old and technically historical pieces,to the utility its quicker and cheaper to simply swap and replace than to mess with a conversion.

What part of the town at Des Plaines?

On Pearson St. at the Metra Station.

Thanks for responding to my message Regennis! Happy you have a pic of it, did you already have a pic? I remember this EXACT light!!!!! It was working, when I saw it lit, but it wasn't the brightest light out there, but wasn't too dim either back in 2002...

Yep, I found it at the google map Smile

The last time I visited downtown Des Plaines was in around 1996/97.

When I was living in thqat area (I used to go bowling (an old bowling place (old fixtures too (the bathroom light above the building was a preheater! And rest were incandescent and slimlines!))) And I remember the fixture, so I asked Regeniss here to take a pic of the light here!!! I wil try to remember other lights I have in my mind...and ask...(only if Regeniss doesn't mind!) Rolling Eyes

No problem-As long as they're not Durstars-my camera's too expensive Laughing

There are durastars in Illinois now? I haven't seen one when I was there...

There is one fixture I am curious about, but I haven't been able to remember where it was...but it was sorta old looking with alunimum housing (stamped apparently) and is actually a FCO and on a short aluminum pole with tapered arm. It lights up HPS. I have seen those fixtures before but they were all MV. I will need to try to remember...

Update: Sadly, this light has recently been removed Crying or Very sad . I was up that way last Monday. They're currently doing a major relighting project (which is all the rage these days)
