General Elecctric M-400 R2.
400w Mercury Vapor on a double guy wire arm. I have taken a pic of this before, on LG, but I decided to get a better pic today.

And in the background there is an M-400 R3 400w HPS on a metal pole. xD The M-400 R3 is out and doesn't work but the M-400 R2 does still work.

Actually GE ballast are still a good quality ballasts....it may just be the lamp...or just the starter not starting up the lamp.....

I meant HPS in general as well as the cheap China lamps. Old school technoledgy is so much simpler. Sad

The M-400 (R3) across from the M-400 (R3) is out too. xD So just the MV light works. The MV light is powered by IREA (the local utility), while the HPS light is powered by the state of Colorado.

IREA uses lots of 175w yardblasters, but then higher wattage's get M-400's (Of all types, Currently they Use M-400 (R3)'s with Metal Halide with an MV lamp) in Mercury Vapor. And current installations get an MH cobrahead with an MV lamp! IREA is wonderful. xD Sticking with Mercury Vapor.

Yeah, I wish my utility, National-Grid, used mercury vapor fixtures. But they stopped doing that in the late 80's to early 90's. Sad Now everything is HPS. Confused

My power company continued to install mercury vapor fixtures until March of 2008, they've been installing HPS streetlights ever since.
GullWhiz   [Mar 19, 2011 at 01:58 PM]
Alex, continued to install MV as replacements or as a brand new installations until March 2008?
LilCinnamon   [Mar 19, 2011 at 02:26 PM]
I don't know when Xcel energy replaced every light with HPS. Prolly a long time ago. But IREA still uses the MV for some reason!
mercuryvaporrocks   [Mar 19, 2011 at 02:31 PM]
@Gullwhiz, my power company installed MV replacements at the time.

It's funny BOTH M-400 R3's on 285 powered by the state are out. But the MV light is fine. I wonder when they will fix both M-400 R3's across from each other.

But I am still glad MV is used around here!
streetlight98   [Aug 30, 2011 at 10:12 PM]
That happens here too. Not really Funny, but here it's because the state waits until a good portion are out before changing the lamps. I'm sure you've heard of group replacement. Wink My utility company does spot replacement and the city roads are always well lit.
