Dixie and Queen 1978

I came across a photo of Queen st and Dixie Road in Brampton in 1978!

It appears to be CGE signals a GE M400-A and a double guy arm

great find. I've been googling all sorts of terms for historic Brampton images, and I can't even find the stuff I used to. How'd you dig this shot up?

I found it on some old Maritime Ontario truck site. This was the only Brampton shot there was. Thats why theres a Maritime Ontario truck in the photo. I was searching specifically for Bramalea photos Smile

Nice! I find older pictures of the suburbs are quite hard to find. I see there's a old olive green MTO signal in the shot.

Yeah they are! I couldnt exactly tell if what color it was because of the picture quality. Definitely not yellow. Never seen any CGE colors in person other than Yellow

I guess it would have looked a bit like this one new:


Back in the 60s and 70s the MTO used green signals at certain intersections. Usually either CGE or Eagle Flatback.

I wonder why they used Green at some intersections. Maybe just the major intersections?

From what I heard, green was used in rural intersections since green signals were more visible against the blue sky compared to yellow signals. Yellow signals were better in a urban area. Of course now that's sorta a moot point since everything is yellow.
