Econolite "Long Groove" Fire Signal
|
This was the first signal I ever installed. It was a fire signal at the intersection of Moraga Rd. and Orchard Rd. in Orinda, CA. It was a blind entrance for fire engines entering from the fire station on the corner. The original signal was span wired over the center of the intersection and had two heads facing opposite directions down the arterial street. It hung next to an illuminated sign box. When the station received a call, the signal would flash over and under (bouncing beacon) and the sign would light up. The station was replaced after I retired and the crew DROPPED the signal when they took it down. Unbeknownst to me someone saved the side that wasn't badly damaged and saved one of the signs from the sign box. I happened to run across that person unexpectedly who said, "I have something for you."
I'll build a new single sided sign box (I still have spare ballasts and starters for the F18T12WW lamps we used in the sign box) so the surviving half of the signal and sign should light up as it once did.
