I don't think he means an original M-400, I think he means split door. But this still probably is an M-400 A. The M-400 A2 power doors can work on these. Just because there isn't vent holes means it is the split door.
The split door M-400s started with vent holes, but after a few years GE dropped the vents on the split door version. The M-400As always had vents all the way through, so that makes this a M-400 (split door). If it had vents it could be either one.
You need to look at the latch of the power door to see what type it has...if it has a stainless steel clip that holds the door closed...that's a split door...but if it has a BIG cast aluminum slider latch its a powerdoor
And Streetlights98....the newest door today for GE M-400A2 does NOT have vents...so you can't be looking at the vents...you need to look at the ballast door latch....
I tried to get the baboon to make a GOOD picture to show the difference between a split door and a power door area...but he hasn't made a good picture of them yet....
The "latch" on my rear split door is a screw. I'm aware of the A2 not having them. This obviously doesn't have a replaced door because its faded just like the rest of it.
Yes but some has a small stainless steel metalic strip latch (which would be too weak to hold a heavy ballast) like on the Baboon's GE M-400 split door...
By the way the GE Form 400 came with different sizes slipfitters....so I would more of think an NEMA bucket may have been there? The arm looks a bit newish to be honest so I would think they put an upgrade here from a previous lower wattage fixture? I know most NEMA heads strictly are 1 1/4 inch...except for older ones that had slipfitters bolted onto the head...the newer ones are wielded and rarely there's bigger size slipfitters...
But looking carefully at this fixture..it seems like the glass door has a grey latch instead of the darker silver...its hard to see, but if it actually has a grey latch (like the rest of the fixture color) then it is a very early GE M-400 from 1966-1968 or so....So this could actually be an orginal fixture maybe with orginal lamps since coated lamps in olden days were more expensive But it's hard to see what PC it has....
intreasting facts jace,i don't even know if its still there, this pic is 3 Years old and i haven't been up that way since November,it may be gone as the city was in the process of "Upgrading" their Old Fixtures to new ones.
