Rte 6 and Interstate 295 in 2001 Before Relighting Project
|
This interchange was (poorly) lit by coated 1000W (I think MH) highmasts up until around 2006-ish, when they replaced them with M-400 FCOs on davit poles. I'd hardly call it an improvement since the white glow was replaced with HPS and also now they have to maintain a lot more fixtures.
Before they replaced the highmasts, they had relamped them just a few months prior, and the interchange was beautifully lit. Like being under moonlight on a full moon. It seem RIDOT always fixes the lights (or has NGrid fix them if they're NGrid-owned) just before they replace them, which has always pissed me off. Waste of new fixtures and bulbs...
Anyway, Here's what this spot looks like today.
